Goldilocks?

So, my 3D Design professor has locks, ringlets... but not of gold hair, of grey hair. Just imagine Goldilocks as a really thin man with grey hair: that's my art professor.

The whole "artist" thing is going well so far. I can tell it's going to be a lot of work, but I am undaunted. Besides, all the while I am doing this hard work, I get to play with markers and sharp objects, sometimes both at once. Don't try this at home folks, I'm almost a trained professional.

and on the second day there was water

Yesterday there was rain, and lots of it. BUT, it was an exploring day, and I would not be deterred. So, I dug my big-ars, Wimbledon umbrella out of my trunk and went exploring. I actually liked that it was raining... you know, exploring, at odds with the elements and all that jazz. It made the whole experience fell very Lewis and Clark, I mean, except for the sidewalks.

And, I had my first cafeteria experience here... I almost missed cafeteria life. I say almost because who really likes to eat off of a plastic tray: no one. But the dining hall here (Van Houten, I have no idea if I spelled that right) isn't bad. I was sitting alone because I haven't met any friends yet, (plus I'm a modern woman, unafraid of those kinds of things :) AND a small group of kids asked me to sit with them. They all run for the cross country team and were all really nice.

Now, I have to tell you, as much I love Kenyon, I think I would have been sitting alone at the dining hall a lot longer than my first day there. Kenyon was beautiful but a little bit clique-ish; it was almost like going to high school again in that respect. But with a student body of only 1,500 kids, I can't say that I was surprised.

Anyway, today was the first day of classes and that went well. But I have to say that NO ONE here wears shorts. I've only seen like seven other people wearing shorts besides myself, and it's really starting to freak me out. That said, my first official day as a student was nice. I only had one class, so I got to sleep in and there was a lot of lounging involved... and a lot of walking involved, I already have blisters. I had forgotten about this part of campus life, but I'll get over it. And now it's off to the cafeteria yet again.

Much love and more later...

We are like Kokosing

Well, I've been at Edinboro for about eight hours now... and already I'm feeling a little bit homesick for Kenyon.

All the doors are locked here; I must take my keys everywhere I go. I suppose that Kenyon has spoiled me as far as the rest of my life is concerned; locked doors are the norm. But how was I supposed to know that? Just kidding, I did know, but coming here has made me realize more than ever that there is only one Kenyon.

All the buildings here are square and of brick. No more stone, no more gargoyles, no more turrets or arches or towers, oh my. There is no Middle Path. There is no Old Kenyon. There are trees, but there is no hill, and get this, the campus is not surrounded by corn fields. What gives? I mean really, what happened to "curiously rural"? Oh well, Old Kenyon Farewell.

However, I really should try not to sound so down in the mouth. I must confess that I haven't gone exploring yet... that is one of tomorrow's activities. AND, did I tell anyone that Edinboro has a Butterfield Hall? Weird coincidence, I actually have a class in there this semester. I have no idea if that Butterfield is related to me or not. Probably not, I'd like to think that I would know about an entire hall named after my family.

But enough for now. More to follow once I've done some exploring. I wish you all good nights and sweet dreams.
